The fact that tanzanite
as found only in one region of the world makes it much rarer than diamond. But
the industrial strength and cost that tanzanite have is not as same as other
precious gemstones. High prices of tanzanite are due to its very rare
occurrence but still remained behind diamond in the same race. Although these
two stones are graded similarly according to cut, clarity, color, carats
parameters.
PRICING
The prices of
diamond are noticeably higher than tanzanite with a difference of more than
100% per carat. The price ranges still vary according to the jeweler’s crafting
and finishing. The fragile structure of tanzanite makes it less favorable as
compared to diamond.
COLORS
There is vast range of colors
that tanzanite expresses from blue to purple. The colors of tanzanite can vary
when exposed to light due to their different cuts. Different lights can cause
tanzanite to reflect different hues. Likewise diamonds vary in colors such as
yellow, pink and blue.
The gauging
process of diamonds that represents it’s worth beings from colorless stone all
the way to prominent and demanding colors.
APPLICATIONS
Diamonds that are malfunctioned while
cutting and molding are not suitable for making of jewelry and other ornaments.
Even though damaged diamonds are not out of the mix. Diamonds are also used for various Industrial
purposes. Diamond cutting blades are widely used for industrial and commercial
needs. Flawed diamonds are also used as an abrasive. Although tanzanite is not
as stronger as the diamond with a rating of 6-7 according to Mohs mineral
hardness scale, while the diamond acquisition is at the top of the scale with a
rating of 10.
CRAFTING
Diamond and tanzanite have their
own importance and value. Each stone is
a reflection of the cultures it is evolved from and holds a position of a
representative. In Tanzania, tanzanite
is regarded as not only a gemstone but a sacred nature’s gift that the
Tanzanians are blessed with. When it comes to crafting both diamond and
tanzanite it is way too costly unless it is a handmade jewelry. The Tanzanians
are well aware of the blessing that they own and for this they were funded for
the Massi Ladies project, which exhibited remarkable handmade creations of
tanzanite. The use of tumbled tanzanite
is also gaining much popularity throughout Tanzania.
